Subscribe to The Caretaker Gazette, a bi-monthly publication, and start using the rent-free living opportunities that we publish. We’re sorry, but we do not send sample issues out any more, since our subscribers were unhappy that people were taking caretaking positions and housesitting opportunities out of the old sample issues we used to send out.
For those of you who would like to save some money and lock in our current low subscription rates before our next rate increase, you can subscribe for two years for $49.95, or three years for $69.95. CAT AND HOUSESITTER NEEDED for three weeks in Wanganui from Sunday, the 30th of November to Sunday, the 21st of December. Wanganui is on the west coast of the North Island about half way between New Plymouth and Wellington (about 2.5 hours/200 km north of Wellington). There are quite a lot of things to do in the area and it is a good base for exploring from. Our property is set on a big garden, just on the outskirts of the city (so own transport is essential). The setting is semi-rural, quiet, and relaxing. There is an outdoor swimming pool, TV, internet access etc. It is quiet but our adult children and previous back packers have all loved staying here - it is a great place to relax and unwind at. We work in Wellington and are usually away for at least three nights during the week but sometimes for the whole week. You need to be here Monday to Friday (regardless of whether one of us is here or not) but over the weekends you are welcome to travel or stay away. You are equally welcome to stay on the property. You are free to work elsewhere by day, including when we are away, as long as you stay overnight and complete the ‘duties’ each day. In return for free accommodation in a fully self-contained, modern, and furnished unit (with lounge/bedroom, kitchenette and ensuite), you would be responsible for feeding and paying attention to very spoiled cats, making sure the property is maintained (e.g. lawn mowing using a ride-on mower, sweeping paths, light gardening etc.), and feeding the free range chickens (approximately 20 hours of light duties per week). You need to supply your own food and cook your own meals. This would suit a responsible couple, but a single or two singles are welcome provided you (both) have NZ residency or citizenship or hold a valid visitor’s visa/permit (work permit is not required), have your own transport, love cats, and can supply a CV/resume and recent references if requested. If you are interested and would like further information please send brief details about yourself/yourselves (e.g. where you are from, how old you are, what experience you have in similar roles, how you would plan to spend your time here, and your travel and work activities/plans while in New Zealand) to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
